MAC SciTech developed a bespoke process monitoring and data-logging system for a specialist manufacturing client to support the development, troubleshooting and optimisation of a poorly understood production process.
The project involved the design and build of three custom logger units, each capable of collecting seven channels of process data. These logger boxes were deployed across multiple machines and operating conditions to capture a clearer picture of how the process behaved in real use.
Alongside sensor data, the system also recorded process outcomes, including successful runs, failures, repeatability issues and observed failure modes. This allowed process behaviour to be analysed against real results rather than relying only on observation, assumption or operator notes.
The purpose of the work was to turn an uncertain process into a measurable system. By collecting multiple data points and linking them to success rates and failure modes, it became possible to identify patterns, compare machine behaviour, and guide practical engineering changes.
This approach supported evidence-led process improvement: measuring what was actually happening, understanding why failures occurred, and using that information to design more robust and repeatable solutions.
